Stand with Brothers and Sisters in Local 3073: Take Action to Restore Collective Bargaining Rights for Federal Workers!

In March, President Trump signed an executive order that stripped federal workers, including members of Local 3073 who work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, of their collective bargaining rights. This action unilaterally canceled union contracts, taking away workers’ voices on the job.

In response, a bipartisan majority in the U.S. House advanced the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550) through a discharge petition. The bill would restore collective bargaining rights to 1 million federal workers nationwide, including our impacted Local 3073 members.

The bill has now been sent to the United States Senate, but Senate action is not automatic. Senate leadership must choose to bring the bill to the floor, and senators must be willing to vote to advance it.

Commit to voting YES to advance the bill

I am writing as a union member of the North Atlantic States Carpenters to urge you to take action on the Protect America’s Workforce Act, H.R. 2550, which has already passed the House with bipartisan support. As a union member, I know firsthand how essential collective bargaining is to having a voice on the job, safe working conditions, and fair wages. This bill would reverse an executive order that stripped federal workers of their collective bargaining rights and led to the cancellation of union contracts for hundreds of thousands of employees, including members of Carpenters Local 3073. This kind of overreach harms working families and undermines basic workplace freedoms. Now that H.R. 2550 is in the Senate, I respectfully ask that you publicly urge Senate leadership to bring this bill to the floor and commit to voting YES to advance it. With strong bipartisan support in the House and nearly 70 percent of Americans backing unions, the message is clear. Workers’ rights and the freedom to have a voice on the job must be protected. This is an important opportunity for the Senate to stand with working people, and I hope you will help move this bill forward and restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers.
