Dear Senator,

As a proud union member, I am writing today to ask for your support of the clean energy tax incentives found in the Inflation Reduction Act as you craft the 2025-2026 budget. These investments in offshore wind, nuclear, hydro, and solar energy production are critically important to our union members and our communities. Today across our region, these tax credits and grants are already generating good-paying, family-sustaining jobs, creating new energy facilities that provide affordable renewable energy to our communities, and growing our region’s economy.

Currently, more than 400 of our United Brotherhood of Carpenters members have already worked in offshore wind—both offshore installing the turbines and onshore building port facilities and power substations. Hundreds more of our members are also working on solar, hydropower, and nuclear projects that receive support. That includes Millwrights, Piledrivers, Carpenters, and many more of our brothers and sisters in the Building Trades.

Our union has been doing its part by investing millions of dollars into training to prepare the next generation of workers for this clean energy transition. These are more than just jobs - they’re life-changing careers, especially for people who have historically been left out of economic opportunity. But these opportunities must not be temporary. We need long-term, sustained investment in renewable energy to ensure that this work continues into the next decade.

We ask you to work with your colleagues from both parties in the Senate to fully support these clean energy incentives. I believe that these wind, solar, nuclear, and hydroelectric projects across the northeast must continue to move forward, and in doing so, will deliver clean, affordable power to the region and family-sustaining, local jobs to our communities.
